The Quinnipiac University poll, released Monday, revealed that Fox News’ coverage is trusted “the most” by 29 percent of respondents, more than NBC News, ABC News, MSNBC, or CNN. Only 7 percent of respondents said MSNBC, less than any other of the aforementioned news outlets.
The poll asked several questions pertaining to news coverage and the news media. For example, 20 percent of respondents said they trust Fox News’ coverage “a great deal,” and 35 percent said they trust the outlet’s coverage “somewhat.”
Local news is trusted very well according to the poll. Nineteen percent of respondents said they trusted their respective local news outlets “a great deal,” and 52 percent said they trusted the coverage “somewhat.” Only 25 percent said “not so much” or “not at all” when asked about their local news coverage.
NBC Nightly News anchor and managing editor Brian Williams was suspended in February for six months for making false statements about a story which took place about 12 years ago in which he said his helicopter was shot down in Iraq. The statement was later proven to be untrue.
With Jon Stewart announcing his exit from The Daily Show on Comedy Central last month – though no end date has been confirmed – several names have been mentioned as a possible replacement. Two former Saturday Night Live cast members top the list in the Quinnipiac poll.
Nineteen percent named former 30 Rock star Tina Fey, while syndicated radio host Dennis Miller, a regular fixture on The O’Reilly Factor, took 16 percent. Both comedians sat in the chair on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment during their careers.
The poll was conducted February 26 – March 2 and surveyed “self-identified registered voters” with a margin of error of 2.7 percent.
